Easter in my town

In my town, Canosa, the time devoted to the Easter rites lasts about two weeks. The first appointment is on Friday before Holy Week with the procession of Our Lady of Sorrows. It lasts until late at night because people are constantly forced to stop to allow the faithful to bind to the black veil. The procession of the Holy Saturday Desolata is unique. The statue of Desolata is preceded by a crowd of children carrying the tools of the Christ’s martyrdom. It follows the chorus of young women, some of them are barefoot, dressed in black with their faces covered and singing "Stabat Mater" a very moving religious song. At the same time people think about traditional cakes to prepare, or they think about going on holiday.

Junk food

Junk food

Why do teenagers prefer junk food ?
It is a word describing foods perceived with little or no nutritional value but actually with ingredients considered unhealthy when regularly eaten, or to those considered unhealthy to consume at all.
Young people consider the ingredients unhealthy when regularly eaten, but unhealthy and easy to consume at all because students and tourists can it eat it wherever they are.
Responsible for this choice by young people has been advertising and television. The marketing against junk food has had an increase in eating disorders and body images.
The youngest they are, the most unhealthy they eat when they aren’t under their parents control. For them junk food means “to be free”.

OUR SCHOOL:IN THE PAST

OUR SCHOOL: IN THE PAST

The new school was a “ginnasio tecnico” and gave also hospitality to a boarding school, as it results from the municipal regulations where we can find that the charge for bed and board went from 6 lire for the “tecnico ginnasiale” course to 15 lire for the “Liceo o Istituto Tecnico” classes; for the primary classes and the cost was 3 lire.
On the 29th May 1894 they were approved the regulations of the institute.
The aim was to take care of the civil, religious, and physical education of the students. The future culture of the students aimed at being well educated, strong and vigorous citizens.

OUR SCHOOL:ORGANIZATION

OUR SCHOOL: ORGANIZATION

The head was the chancellor, helped by a Censor, by some teachers or some soldiers on retire. In this institution it was forbidden to use every dialect because they wanted the students used only a correct Italian language. In the 1930s in our school there was the “Elementary school” ,and after that the Professional School. During the second world war, the building became a military hospital, and it was indicated to the planes by the symbol Red Cross, on the roof to avoid being bombed.
After the war the building “G.Bovio” was again an elementary school, then a professional school and finally a Secondary lower school, as it is still today.

were Italy and grece partners about food in the past?

The gastronomic tradition of Canosa di Puglia is strongly linked with Mediterranean tradition.
One of the most common is still burned wheat flour: it was a dark flour witch the old farmers obtained after the harvest. This was permitted by the landowners for those people who couldn’t have anything to eat for them and their families.
One of the most popular dishes obtained from dark and white flour is the “strascinati”, and the bread and ham, so called because every slice of bread has two different colours.
