In Greek-Roman time’s bread, wine and olive oil were the fondamentals foods of Mediterranean’s world. In the IV century d.C. , when the Christian religion was the most diffused religion in the Roman Empire, they were considered the sacred foods for excellence. These fondamentals foods, so commons and indispensables in the daily diet had in the Christian medieval the meaning of spiritual diet too. Wine and bread were so important for the Christians communities, that the presence of vineyard and fields of grain marked the diffusion of the Christian religion in Europe. In fact almost everywhere the monks founded a convent; they cultivated grapes and grain, even when the climate wasn’t good for these plants. So today there isn’t religion of Europe that didn’t have his wine.
